Into the discovery of the Amazon and the incredible Tambopata-Candamo Reserve in the region of Madre de Dios, only an hour-long flight from Cusco. In this spectacular biological reserve, a diversity of fauna have been identified: 1,234 species of butterflies, 592 bird species, 135 types of ants, 127 species of amphibians, 94 fish species. We will have an unforgettable experience of ecotourism in the Amazon, including the gems of Peru: Cusco, Machu Picchu and the Sacred Valley, Lake Titicaca, Arequipa and the Colca Canyon. All paired with visits to rural communities and local realities to come into contact with this country's spirit, like true travelers...

1° day : Arrival in Lima
International flight. Airport pick-up and transfer to hotel.
2° day : Arrival in Puerto Maldonado"
Transfer to airport, Lima - Puerto Maldonado flight. Airport pick-up, we then cross the river and travel by the interoceanic road to go deeper in the rainforest until we arrive at the sustainable ecolodge "La Estancia Bello Horizonte," where we enjoy lunch and relax surrounded by the rainforest and its incredible scenery. By staying at this lodge, we support the San Vicente project, a local association that protects children and teens. In the afternoon we go on a trek through botanical gardens, where we learn about some medicinal plants that are used by locals.
3° day : Excursion in the Jungle
Early at dawn we go for a walk through an immense forest, where we observe diverse plants and huge trees such as the Lupuna. We are able to listen to and see the fauna, like the parrots, toucans, monkeys, insects, etc. After the walk we have breakfast and free time to rest and enjoy the fresh water pool. Lunch at the lodge, and in the afternoon we go on a walk through an "aguajal," a palm tree ecosystem, where we can appreciate the diversity of bird species and the characteristic vegetation of this place. At the end of the walk we arrive at the Canopy Walk and go up to the platform, where we have the opportunity to observe the surrounding nature from up above.
4° day : Parrots & Lake Sandoval
We rise early at 04:30 to navigate the Madre de Dios river towards the parrot canopy where, every day, hundreds of parrots of different colors as well as other bird species feed from the salty mud. We visit the canopy very early to be able to better appreciate this activity. After this show of nature we have breakfast, and continue our trip through the river. We go on a 4km walk to arrive at Lake Sandoval and discover the diverse fauna of the place (manatees, monkeys, shanshos, a variety of birds and butterflies). Here we rest and have lunch... then we head back to the lodge.
5° day : Flight to Cusco
Transfer to the airport, flight to Cusco. Airport pick-up and transfer to the hotel where we'll get time to rest so our bodies can adjust to the altitude. Free afternoon, we recommend resting and eating light. Night at the hotel.
6° day : Cusco, Sacsayhuaman

After breakfast, we gather to depart at 08:30 by foot with our tour guide. We start at the Plaza de Armas (main plaza) of Cusco and make our way to the San Pedro market where we come into contact with the tastes, colors and typical aromas of the Andes. We then take a private car to visit the Inca ruins in the surroundings of the city: Sacsayhuaman, Kenko, Puka Pukara and Tambomachay. Afterwards we drive to Pisac, famous for its colorful artisan crafts market and archeological complex, a demonstration of Inca architecture of large walls and towers, all made with polished blocks of stone cut to fit together tightly without mortar. Arrival in Urubamba, some rest time and then we have the briefing and presentation for the rest of the trip given by a member of the PeruEtico team. Night at the hotel.

7° day : Sacred Valley: Maras, Moray

Today, with our tour guide and private transport, we course through the mythical "Sacred Valley of the Incas" to discover one of the most beautiful and magical places in Peru. We visit Moray, ancient and wonderful biological lab of the Incas; Maras, impressive salt mines embedded in a beautiful landscape, which have been in operation for over 1000 years; and Ollantaytambo, the only Inca town that is still inhabited today and is an extraordinary model of urban planning. In the afternoon we ride the train to Aguas Calientes to begin our Machu Picchu adventure. Night at the hotel.

8° day : Machu Picchu
At dawn we embark on a dream. We take the bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu and enter the "lost city." For the more adventurous there is the possibility to hike to the summit of Wayna Picchu. In the afternoon we take the train back to Ollantaytambo or Poroy and then the bus to make our way back to Cusco. Night at the hotel.
9° day : Free Day in Cusco, Myths

Free day to walk around the beautiful city of Cusco. Some must-see sites that we recommend: The Cathedral at the Plaza de Armas; MAP (Museum of Pre-Columbian Art); Qoricancha - The Temple of the Sun; and the quaint neighborhood of San Blas. In the evening we go on a cultural and alternative walking tour. Strolling under the stars through the historic center of the city, we discover a less-known side of Cusco: myths, legends, tales, ghosts and saints. A unique experience to see the true Cusco, iconic city of Peru. Night at the hotel.

10° day : The Road to Puno
We get picked up at 06:15 from the hotel and begin our journey towards the city of Puno. The comfortable touristic bus (includes heating, air conditioning, chemical bathroom, DVD, on board service, and buffet lunch in Sicuani) will make a series of stops during the journey: Andahuaylillas, Rajchi, and Pukara. Pick-up from the bus station in Puno. At night, between 19:00 and 20:00, we meet with a PeruEtico team member. Night at the hotel.
11° day : Lake Titicaca

After breakfast, at 07:30 we go to the port to embark on a boat for a tour on Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake. We'll visit the floating islands of the Uros located north of the Puno bay, followed by a stop at Taquile, the lake's largest island. We disembark on the north part of the island and from there we make our way to Huayllano. The families of Huayllano lead us in our discovery of the uses, customs and ancient traditions of the island. A native family will host us and, as their guests, we are invited to wear their typical attire and live like a member of the community for one night. Dinner and night stay with our host family.

12° day : Taquile Island

After breakfast we explore the bay, the beach and a few archeological sites. Walk to the village of Taquile where we enjoy lunch, and then descend to the port to get back to Puno with an estimated arrival at 18:00. Night in Puno.

13° day : The Canyon and Thermal Waters
In the morning, between 06:00 and 06:30, we take a bus from Puno to Chivay where we arrive in the afternoon. Chivay is located in the Colca Canyon, the deepest canyon on Earth. There, we can enjoy beautiful landscapes and see the natural habitat of alpacas, llamas, guanacos, vizcachas, etc. Option to bathe in the thermal waters of the valley. Night in Chivay.
14° day : The Condor of the Andes
Early in the morning we depart towards "The Cross of the Condor," a lookout point from where we are able to closely see this spectacular Andean bird in flight. After lunch we begin our trip to Arequipa, stopping at various villages along the valley. Estimated arrival 18:00. Night at the hotel.
15° day : Arequipa, The White City
Free day in Arequipa, "The White City." Some things you cannot miss: Santa Catalina Convent, Museum of mummy Juanita, and the delicious traditional dishes of local cuisine. At night we are picked up from the hotel and taken to the bus station where, on a comfortable touristic bus (includes heating, air conditioning, chemical bathroom, DVD, on board service) we embark towards Lima (15-hour trip).
16° day : On a trip along the coast
Pick-up from the bus station and transfer to hotel. Free afternoon, night at the hotel.
17° day : Return home and/or City Tour of Lima
Airport transfer. International flight. If your flight departs at night, we recommend spending the day on our City Tour, where we take you to discover an authentic Lima.

Trip notes

City to city transfers in comfortable touristic buses: restroom on board, heating, air conditioning, reclining seats. The Yellow Fever vaccine is required for the trip to the Amazon. Please remember to bring the vaccine certificate. During the rainy season the Malaria pill is recommended. Private tour: Cusco area, Lake Titicaca, Lima. Group tours: Amazon, Colca Canyon. In Arequipa, the hotel check-out time is 11:00. Luggage can be left in the hotel storage. (To keep the room for the rest of the day there is an extra charge of $30.00 per person). Machu Picchu: Passengers must take to Aguas Calientes luggage for only two days and one night. Due to train restrictions, please only take a backpack or carry-on size luggage that weighs no more than 5kg. The rest of your luggage should be left in storage at the hotel in Cusco or Urubamba. From the moment of arrival in Peru, the passenger is responsible for any additional costs caused by a variation in the program (net cost plus agency rights).
